Alicante prepara la salida de la “Volvo Ocean Race 2008 – 2009”, que por primera vez en su historia parte del Mediterráneo.
La prestigiosa regata Volvo Ocean Race, en su edición 2008-2009, partirá desde el puerto de Alicante el 11 de Octubre de 2008. Desde su página web se pueden conocer todos los detalles de esta regata alrededor del mundo por escalas en la que sólo los mejores tripulantes se atreven a vivir en condiciones extremas y en la que los equipos participantes recorrerán 39 mil millas en nueve meses y vivirán en un espacio que, por persona no supera los dos metros cuadrados.
A través de la página se dan a conocer las novedades de esta décima edición de la regata que sale por primera vez del Mediterráneo. La ciudad de Alicante será la anfitriona de la etapa más destacada junto con la llegada a San Petersburgo, así como China, Arabia Saudí, Irlanda y Rusia que se incluyen por primera vez en una ruta que hará escala en once países. La web dispone de secciones de comunicación con noticias, datos sobre el puerto de salida, meteorología en Alicante, la competición náutica e información para el visitante.
Para la salida se ha preparado un ambicioso programa de eventos y se ha instalado en el Village Alicante 2008-2009, un recinto abierto al público de 40 mil metros cuadrados en el puerto que abrirá sus puertas el 19 de Septiembre y, que hasta el 11 de Octubre, ofrecerá a los ciudadanos y visitantes un programa intenso y atractivo de actividades para todas las edades y públicos.

THE START OF VOLVO OCEAN RACE 2008 – 2009
The 2008 – 2009 edition of the prestigious Volvo Ocean Race is scheduled to set sail from de port of Alicante on 11th October 2008. Visitors to this website can discover everything they nedd to know about this round-the-world yacht race, in which only the world´s best crews dare take part. During the 39,000 nautical miles, over a period of 9 months, crews will experience extreme conditions and live in cramped quarters affording no more than 2 m2 of room per person.
The website offers the latest news on this, the 10th Volvo Ocean Race which wil be setting sail fom a Mediterranean port for the first time, with Alicante hosting the start –one of the most exciting stages of the race, together with the finish. This year sees the race enjoy another firts with the inclusion of China, Saudi Arabia, Ireland and Russia for the first time, along a route that wil make stopovers in 11 countries. The website also features information on the starting port, the weather in Alicante, the competition and special details for visitors to the city.
An ambitious programme of events has been put together to mark the start of this world-famous yacht race, and a 40,000 m2 enclosure called Village Alicante 2008 – 2009 has been purpose-built in the port. The Village will be open to the public as of 19th September, offering locals and visitors alike a jam-packed programme of exciting events and activities for hall ages and tastes in the run-up to the start on 11th October.
